Artist Spotlight: Sara Rossi

Sara Rossi

Sara Rossi has been a PigSpigot artist since the very beginning.  Her political and pop culture-y cards are exactly what the Pig envisioned when he dreamed up “greeting cards on tap.”

She’s an artist and an entrepreneur, conquering the big apple.   She shared her inspiration with us here:

What inspires your work?
Everything. Fashion, art, pop culture, New York City.  I am constantly attempting to bridge creativity and beauty with a little bit of humor. But I try not to take any of it too seriously.

Where are you located?
I’m originally from Westport, CT, but now I live in New York City.

What’s your favorite kind of greeting card to receive?
Other than Pig cards, obviously, it would have to be the really cheesy animated e-cards that my dad sends me every year on my birthday. They usually make me laugh out loud.

What is the last card you received / sent?
I doubt it was the last one, but one that really made me laugh was a birthday card from a college roommate that read, “There is a certain amount of wine that makes you say, ‘Damn, I’m a good dancer’.” Which couldn’t be more true (and unfortunate) in my case.

What’s your favorite kind of card to send?
Drink Me Tags, my new company that designs gift tags for wine bottles. (Shameless plug).

Drink Me TagsWhere can people find your art for purchase? Isn’t it true you have a new line of products? Tell us about them.
My mom and I founded Drink Me Tags and launched the product line and website just in time for the holidays! Drink Me Tags are gift cards especially designed for wine and spirit bottles.

For my mom and I, giving a bottle of wine for any occasion is standard practice. But gifting options have always been slim.  We wanted to create tags that were easy, classy, and inspired—something more than a clumsy attempt to get your bottle noticed.

Drink Me Tags are colorful, custom designed cards with taglines that include, “It’s 5PM Somewhere,” “Grape Therapy” and “Drink me.”  They are affixed to a loop of ribbon by a metal brad, so that they hang cleanly on the shoulders of Get Well Laterany wine bottle.

We’re selling tags at wholesale and retails prices and all the designs can be found on our site: www.drinkmetags.com.

Where do you do your best work?
The majority of my work is done on my couch in front of the TV. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t watch television without my computer open on my lap.  I tend to have to rewind a lot because I’m always missing what’s happening on the show.

What’s your favorite medium and why?
My Mac! I couldn’t live without it. I studied studio arts in college, but focused on Changedigital design. I’m really an awful drawer, so if it wasn’t for Photoshop my cards would only exist in my head.

Tell us what you think about the Pig!
I love the Pig! I got involved almost a year ago, months before they launched, and I’ve had so much fun creating for them ever since!

What’s your favorite pork product?
I haven’t eaten red meat in fifteen years… But I do love turkey sausage!
