What inspires you?

I wish I knew. Inspiration comes sporadically and from the strangest places such as dreams, conversations, flashes of images from tv, other images…

What’s your favorite kind of greeting card to receive?

Funny, cute, sarcastic, naughty.

What’s your favorite kind of card to send?

Funny, cute, sarcastic, naughty.

What is the last card you received / sent?

The last card I received was on my birthday, June 11th. The last card I sent was on my son’s birthday in July. Ironically, I’m not real good at sending cards.

Where do you do your best work?

What’s your favorite pork product?

I’m a vegetarian but I do miss bacon.

Nicole Daddona likes 80s workout videos. She also likes to create awesome cards–which is why we get along so well.

She’s made some awesome card creations here at PigSpigot, which is why she’s our featured artist today!

Here’s what she had to say about her work:

What inspires your work?
Anything! I really love typefaces. I know that’s really dorky..but I just can’t help myself! Lately, I have been very inspired by album covers. So much more goes into them than I ever cared to notice until recently.

What’s your favorite kind of greeting card to receive?
Probably one with money in it.. just kidding..! I love any card that comes from the heart. As cliche as it sounds, I like when a card says something special that a person wouldn’t normally say out loud.

What’s your favorite kind of card to send?
Funny ones. I love any card that makes me chuckle. My favorite thing to do is to take a funny card and then write something really genuine and from the heart inside it.

What is the last card you received / sent?
My Birthday just passed, so the last card that I received was.. well… a Birthday card! The last card that I sent was a thank you card for a Birthday gift that I got!

Where do you do your best work?
In my room or a coffee shop with music on in the background. I also usually light a candle when I work. I guess I like my work to be romantic. Actually, I just like the way candles smell and make a room feel.

What’s your favorite medium and why?
Honestly? Plain white Xerox paper and a pencil with a big eraser… then I go over the pencil with a Le Pen ultra fine black pen before scanning my illustration into the computer where I do editing magic in Adobe Illustrator.

Where are you located?
The mean streets of Connecticut.

Where can people find your art for purchase?
Oh! What a nice question. I have an Etsy store, but nothing is really on it. I guess I should update that! The address is http://www.etsy.com/shop/BeyondTheseBorders. Thanks to anyone who checks it out!

Tell us what you think about the Pig!
Amazing. Fun. Clever. Off-beat. Wonderful.

What’s your favorite pork product?
Bacon, but I don’t eat it anymore. I love pigs too much to eat them… especially the Pig!

Sometimes you see a person’s name and work and you bridge the two together, creating a mental image of what you believe the person looks like, enjoys doing, etc. Konstantin Vernikovskiy never gives you exactly what you’re expecting. His work is dark and beautiful, and always uniquely clever in its wording.

We caught up with Konstantin to find out how he comes up with all this good stuff. Here’s what he told us:

What inspires your work?
Well, I’ve always read a lot of web-comics, watched a lot of movies, and played a lot of video games. Doesn’t sound like a promising beginning for an art career, but there it is. I want to tell stories and make characters, and greeting cards are like ultra-tiny micro-stories that I practice with.

What’s your favorite kind of greeting card to receive?
I have to say, I’m a fan of the deadpan snarky cards with an undertone of unspeakable horribleness.

What’s your favorite kind of card to send?
I’d say that it’s whatever the person would truly appreciate, but I’d be lying. I want to send a card that I would like. Because I’m selfish like that.

What is the last card you received / sent?
You know, I can’t recall a time I actually sent someone a card. I make cards, sign cards, and so on… I guess I’m a natural-born postage-moocher.

Where do you do your best work?
At my computer. It’s where all the magic happens.

What’s your favorite medium and why?
I really enjoy digital art made directly with a tablet; tablets are convenient and powerful tools. There’s also the coolness factor of how far technology has advanced that I can do this now. Though I hear it’s possible to draw directly on a computer monitor now – crazy.

Where are you located?
Boston, MA, USA, M.D., PHD., Esq.

Where can people find your art for purchase?
My main website is, unfortunately, down; when it exists it will be at kon.vernikovskiy.com. Meanwhile, I have a temporary and ugly gallery here that people can look at here: http://picasaweb.google.com/BobusDoleus/Gallery#
And everyone should feel free to contact me directly by email for purchases, commissions, or other work!

Tell us what you think about the Pig!
It’s great how the internet lets cool people get together and try cool things. And the Pig is accomplishing something very cool indeed! There were some established conventions what needed challenging.

What’s your favorite pork product?
Well, bacon /is/ the candy of meat… But I’d have to say I most love pork to be used in fine dining, or fancy home cooking, such as this recipe: http://www.recipezaar.com/Vietnamese-Fish-Simmered-in-Caramel-Sauce-Ca-Kho-To-56112 (Substitute pork for fish.)

Lisette, or LaDon as we like to call her around the sty, hails from the City of Angels. We love her crass sarcasm and her occasional, but well-executed, puns. She’s a woman of words, art and fashion–no kidding. Lisette transfers art to clothes, clever use of language to her cards, and clothes into her art (and cards) too!

The writers of the PigSpigot blog caught up with her to learn more about how she comes up with her cards, art, fashion, etc. Here’s what she had to say:

What inspires your work?
The things that make me smile, make me cry, make me laugh and make me wonder why.

What’s your favorite kind of greeting card to receive?
Funny expected cards! The kind that you keep up 5 months after the occasion!

What’s your favorite kind of card to send?
Hmmmm Ummmm My cards for Pigspigot! lol

What is the last card you received / sent?
I last received a Christmas card that had little puppies in stockings made out of felt. I thought it was pretty fancy! I last sent my Pigspigot Doggy Porn card to my mom. She asked if I really make porns with my dog cupid who is in the picture. After laughing I realized wow she really does think im nuts! lol

Where do you do your best work?
Right at home in my art studio

What’s your favorite medium and why?
Well I like drawing with pencil and making it into a graphic but I have to much to learn as an artist and well who knows what my favorite will be some day. Life as an artist is all about evolving!

Where are you located?
La La Land, Downtown Los Angeles

Where can people find your art for purchase?
I am currently designing for a clothing line called Signorelli which is distributed in major department stores and high end boutique nationwide. You can also check out my blog which should be up and running soon! www.artisticsacrifice.blogspot.com and my portfolio www.lisettecorrea.carbonmade.com

Tell us what you think about the Pig!
The pig is Brilliant! I love the creativity and funny cards that comes out of this Pig’s butt! ha

What’s your favorite pork product?
Well Because I love the pig I don’t eat the pig! Free the Pig….and yourself if you havent!

Well, well, well. Looks like we finally caught up with the infamous Tony, TonyInfamous.
Catering to scumbags and political incorrectness, Tony makes us laugh, quietly, hunched over our computer screens in our parents’ basement…
Anyhow, here’s what he told us about his art:

Well, well, well. Looks like we finally caught up with the infamous Tony, TonyInfamous.

Catering to scumbags and political incorrectness, Tony makes us laugh, quietly, hunched over our computer screens in our parents’ basement…

Anyhow, here’s what he told us about his art:

What inspires your work?
Well, I’ve always been into art for as long as I can remember and now work full-time as a freelance graphic designer. So, my daily life involves a lot of creativity, variety, time with my girlfriend, family….I’d say that would be my biggest inspiration.

What’s your favorite kind of greeting card to receive?
Dark Humor, Funny, weird….anything with zombies.

What’s your favorite kind of card to send?
Same!

What is the last card you received / sent?
The last card I received was a Norman Rockwell style Birthday card. The one card I sent was one of those “Puppy with the big head” cards, to a friend who can’t stand those, for fun!

Where do you do your best work?
At home.

Why do you prefer graphic design?

It incorporates a wide range of artistic mediums and serves as sort of a hub for what gets delivered visually to various platforms.

Where are you located?
Houston, TX

Where can people find your art for purchase?
They can view my online portfolio at tonyinfamous.com and I’ve recently been accepted into Zazzle.com’s ‘Artsprojeckt’ at http://zazzle.com/tonyinfamous

Tell us what you think about the Pig!
The Pig is great! Awesome site, innovative concept and overall fun atmosphere!

What’s your favorite pork product?
This question would be impossible for me to answer! There’s tons of great and original pork products. People can just be sure that they will find something that they will like. I’m doing all of my Christmas Cards through the Pig this year!

Her work is lots of fun and we wanted to learn more about how her cards and art get to be so awesome. Here’s what she’s told us about herself:

What inspires your work?
I love letters inside and out. They group together to form not only words that have meaning, but also abstract shapes. I am most interested in looking these shapes for what they are… and then tweaking them beyond comfortable recognition.

What’s your favorite kind of greeting card to receive?
Anything hand made. I mean, I love to receive any kind of greeting card, but it’s hard to beat handwriting and cute little doodles.

What’s your favorite kind of card to send?
I like sending cards when they are unexpected, like between holidays n’ stuff. And you can bet they’re handmade (from PS cards to little post-it notes [those count as cards, I think]).

What is the last card you received / sent?
The last card I received was a cute valentine’s card with a creepy lemur on it from my friend Morgan– she knows how much I love my creepy lemurs. The last card I sent was a card in response to hers — lalafunpant’s “Today’s Special Is You” card.

Where do you do your best work?
If it’s digital, on my laptop in front of el TV. If I’m drawing, though… I have a table that’s ridiculously too large for my apartment (7 ft long). It’s the perfect height for drawing. I’d like to get an easel, though.

What’s your favorite medium to work in?
My favorite medium is pretty much whatever is available. Right now I’m using a lot of colored pencils because I love the way they build up a nice sheen and smoothness on the paper. I also love how black india ink is and how it comes out of a calligraphy pen nib.

Where are you located?
I live in Brooklyn, NY.

Where can people find your art for purchase?
Well, I’ve never sold any work, but if anyone would like some– email me at jabzoog@gmail.com! But, so I can still plug myself eeee, I am in the middle of starting a new “blog” that’s sort of like a personal/work blog, where entries are images of handwriting. There will also be digital and hand-drawn lettering if I’ve had one of those “one word” (four letter word) days. Stay tuned to www.letterlove.net.

Tell us what you think about the Pig!
The Pig is great. It is such a relief to see cards made with LOVE and that have personality. I love the community aspect and how resources grow and grow and grow. And, the Pig is easy!

What’s your favorite pork product?
Mmm. I don’t eat pork much, unless it’s in a Cemita al Pastor from Tacos Matamoros in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. A really, really delicious sandwich with spicy yummy pork. Also any pork from Momofuku. I don’t like bacon… shh.
